Founder Interview

Angel Rivera

My biggest advice to anyone looking to start a business is to believe in yourself, stay consistent, and don’t be afraid to start small. You don’t need to have everything figured…

So nice to meet you! First off, what’s your name? Tell our readers a bit about yourself—where you’re from originally and where you live now.

It’s a pleasure to meet you as well! My name is Angel Rivera, professionally known as DJ Stream. I was born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and I’m currently based in Allentown, right here in the Lehigh Valley.

I’m a professional DJ, entertainer, and entrepreneur, as well as the owner of Stream DJ & Events, a company I established in 2020 specializing in weddings and special events. I’m also the creator and host of Mix N Mingle, an interactive LIVE DJ show where I bring people together through music, entertainment, and positive energy.

I’ve had a passion for music since I was young, and what started as a love for DJing has grown into something much bigger. I’m someone who believes in staying humble, working hard, and making a positive impact through what I love to do.

Tell us one thing you love about where you live now.

One thing I love about living in Allentown is the sense of community. The Lehigh Valley has such a diverse mix of people, cultures, and music, which I really appreciate as a DJ. It’s a place where I’ve had the opportunity to build relationships, connect with amazing people, and grow both personally and professionally. There’s something special about being able to do what you love while staying connected to the community you call home.

Tell us a little more about what your company does and how it started. How does it help your customers?

I’m the proud owner of Stream DJ & Events, a professional entertainment company I established in 2020. We specialize in weddings, private celebrations, corporate events, and other special occasions, offering DJ and MC services, professional lighting, digital photo booths, and special effects to create memorable experiences.

My journey actually started long before I launched the company. I developed a passion for DJing at just 14 years old, inspired by my father, who was also a DJ. What began as practicing in my bedroom and performing at small gatherings eventually grew into a lifelong passion and a business of my own.

What makes Stream DJ & Events special is that we’re not just there to play music. We’re there to create an experience. I take pride in getting to know my clients, understanding their vision, and working closely with them and their vendors to make sure everything flows smoothly.

For me, it’s about taking the stress off my clients so they can relax, enjoy their celebration, and make lasting memories with the people they love. Seeing people smiling, dancing, and having the time of their lives is what makes it all worthwhile.

If someone wants to start a business, what advice would you give them?

My biggest advice to anyone looking to start a business is to believe in yourself, stay consistent, and don’t be afraid to start small. You don’t need to have everything figured out from day one. What matters is taking that first step and being willing to learn along the way.

Building a business takes patience, sacrifice, and dedication. There will be challenges, setbacks, and moments when you question yourself, but those experiences are part of the journey. Don’t compare your progress to someone else’s success. Everyone’s path is different.

One thing I’ve learned is that your reputation is everything. Treat people with respect, stay humble, deliver on your promises, and let your work speak for itself. Some of my greatest opportunities have come through word of mouth and the relationships I’ve built over the years.

Most importantly, remember why you started. Success doesn’t happen overnight, but every step forward is progress. Stay true to your vision, keep your faith, and never stop believing in what you’re building.

What is one piece of feedback from a happy customer or client that you won't forget?

One piece of feedback that really stuck with me came from a parent who hired me for their daughter’s Sweet 15 celebration with only six days to prepare. After the event, they left a heartfelt review sharing how my professionalism, organization, and communication helped give them peace of mind during what could have been a stressful experience.

What meant the most to me wasn’t just hearing how much everyone enjoyed the music and entertainment. It was knowing that I helped a family relax, enjoy their special moment, and create memories together.

I’ve also had wedding clients tell me they couldn’t have chosen a better DJ and that their guests were asking for my information before the night was even over.

Feedback like that truly means a lot to me. It reminds me that my job isn’t just about playing great music. It’s about building trust, creating unforgettable experiences, and making people feel confident that they’re in good hands. That’s the kind of impact I want to leave with every client.

Where do you see your company in the future?

I see Stream DJ & Events continuing to grow into a well-established and trusted entertainment company, not just here in the Lehigh Valley, but throughout the surrounding regions and beyond.

My vision is bigger than just being a DJ. I want to build a brand that people recognize for quality, professionalism, and unforgettable experiences. Eventually, I’d love to expand my team, bring other talented DJs and entertainers on board, and create more opportunities for others who share the same passion.

One of my long-term dreams is to own an event venue or banquet hall where people can come together to celebrate life’s special moments. I want to create something that goes beyond entertainment and becomes a lasting part of the community.

Most importantly, I want to continue growing without losing the values that got me here: staying humble, treating people right, and putting my heart into everything I do.

For me, success isn’t just about how big the company becomes. It’s about the lives we touch, the memories we help create, and the legacy we leave behind.

What is the biggest misconception about your industry?

I think one of the biggest misconceptions about the DJ and entertainment industry is that all we do is show up, press play, and play music. There’s so much more that goes on behind the scenes that people don’t always see.

Being a professional DJ requires preparation, experience, creativity, and the ability to read a crowd. Especially when it comes to weddings and special events, we’re not just responsible for the music. We’re helping coordinate timelines, communicating with vendors, making announcements, managing transitions, and keeping the energy flowing throughout the celebration.

A great DJ knows when to bring the energy up, when to slow things down, and how to adapt when things don’t go exactly as planned. Those decisions can make a huge difference in someone’s experience.

I also believe there’s a difference between simply playing songs and truly entertaining people. It’s about creating an atmosphere, connecting with your audience, and making moments memorable.

At the end of the day, people aren’t just hiring someone to play music. They’re trusting you with moments they can never recreate. That’s a responsibility I take seriously, and it’s something I wish more people understood about our industry.

What has been one of your biggest struggles building your business, and how did you deal with it?

One of my biggest struggles has been finding the balance between working a regular job, building my business, and still making time for myself. When you’re passionate about something and have big dreams, you want to give it everything you’ve got, but the reality is that building a business takes time, money, patience, and a lot of sacrifice.

There have been long days, late nights, and moments when I’ve felt overwhelmed trying to manage everything. One thing I’ve learned is that you can’t rush the process. I’ve had to become more disciplined with my time, stay organized, and remind myself why I started in the first place.

Instead of allowing challenges to discourage me, I’ve tried to use them as motivation to keep improving. Every event, every client, and every experience has taught me something valuable.

I’m still working toward my ultimate goal of becoming a full-time entrepreneur, and I know there’s more work ahead. But I’ve learned to appreciate the progress I’ve made rather than focus only on how far I still have to go.

The biggest lesson for me has been that success isn’t about never struggling. It’s about having the determination to keep going, even when the journey gets difficult.

Who was your favorite music artist and athlete growing up?

Growing up, my favorite music artist was DMX, and my favorite athlete was Michael Jordan.

What I admired about DMX was his raw energy, passion, and authenticity. You could feel the emotion in his music, and when he performed, he commanded the crowd. As someone who grew up loving music and eventually became a DJ, that kind of energy and connection with an audience always stood out to me.

Michael Jordan was someone I admired for his competitive spirit, determination, and work ethic. He had that mentality of always pushing himself to be better and never settling for less.

Although they came from two completely different worlds, they both represented something powerful to me: passion, dedication, and giving everything you’ve got to your craft. Those are qualities I try to carry with me in my own journey.

Any shoutouts you want to make?

First and foremost, I want to give all glory to God for the blessings, opportunities, and strength to keep pushing forward.

A special shoutout to my family, friends, and everyone who has supported me throughout my journey. To all my clients who have trusted Stream DJ & Events with their special moments, thank you for allowing me to be part of your memories. Your support, referrals, and kind words mean more than you know.

Much love to my entire Mix N Mingle family and Stream Team for showing up, spreading positivity, and supporting what I love to do.

And to all the DJs, entrepreneurs, and dreamers out there working toward something bigger, keep believing in yourself. Stay humble, stay consistent, and never forget where you came from.

I’m grateful for how far I’ve come, excited for what’s ahead, and thankful for everyone who’s been part of the journey. The best is yet to come!
