Founder Interview
Renee Ambrose
Start before you feel completely ready. You’ll learn so much more by doing than by waiting for everything to be perfect. Be willing to adjust, learn from mistakes and listen to…

So nice to meet you! To start, could you please share your name and tell our readers a little about yourself, including where you’re originally from and where you’re based now?
My name is Renee Ambrose, and I’m the owner of Ready Set Shine, a locally owned cleaning company based in Boerne, Texas. I’m originally from New Jersey and now call the Texas Hill Country home.
As a mom, I understand how much families have to juggle. I started Ready Set Shine to help take one thing off our clients’ plates and bring a sense of peace and comfort into their homes. Owning my business has also given me the flexibility to be present for my daughter and better accommodate her health and care needs.
For me, Ready Set Shine is about more than cleaning—it’s about giving families back some of their time and helping their homes feel a little less overwhelming.
Tell us one thing you love about where you live now.
One of my favorite things about living in the Texas Hill Country is the sense of community. Boerne and the surrounding areas have grown so much, but they still have that welcoming, small-town feel where people support local businesses and really get to know one another. I also love the scenery and the slower pace compared with a larger city. It has been a wonderful place to raise my daughter and grow my business.
Tell us a little more about what you do and how it started. How does it help the people you reach?
Ready Set Shine provides residential, commercial, move-in/move-out, deep cleaning and post-construction cleaning throughout Boerne and the surrounding Hill Country. I started the company with the goal of creating a cleaning service that felt professional, personal and consistent. As we’ve grown, I’ve focused on building strong systems, training our team well and maintaining a high standard of care in every space we clean. For our clients, it’s about more than having a clean home or business—it’s about giving them back time, reducing stress and creating a space they can truly enjoy.

If someone wants to start a business, what advice would you give them?
Start before you feel completely ready. You’ll learn so much more by doing than by waiting for everything to be perfect. Be willing to adjust, learn from mistakes and listen to your customers. Most importantly, stay consistent, take care of your customers and build a reputation people can trust.
What is one piece of feedback from a happy customer or client that you won't forget?
One piece of feedback I’ll never forget came from a client who told me that our service helps him be a better parent. He said that because we take cleaning off his plate, he has more time and energy to spend with his kids, and he doesn’t get as frustrated when they make a mess because he knows the house is being taken care of. That really stuck with me because it showed me that what we do can have an impact far beyond just having a clean home.

Where do you see your company in the future?
I see Ready Set Shine continuing to grow throughout the Texas Hill Country while staying true to the quality and personal service we were built on. I’d love to continue growing our team, expand our residential and commercial services, and create more opportunities for the people who work with us. My goal is to build a company that becomes a trusted name in the area while still making every client feel valued.
What is the biggest misconception about your industry?
One of the biggest misconceptions in the cleaning industry is that “clean” means the same thing to everyone. Every client has a different standard, different priorities and different things they notice first. What feels spotless to one person may not meet another person’s expectations. That’s why communication is so important in our business. We take the time to understand what matters most to each client so we can provide a service that truly feels clean to them.

What has been one of your biggest struggles building your business, and how did you deal with it?
One of my biggest struggles has been learning how to grow without sacrificing the quality that built our reputation in the first place. As the business grew, I had to learn that I couldn’t do everything myself. I’ve focused on creating better systems, training my team, setting clear expectations and learning to delegate while still staying involved in the quality of our work. It’s definitely been a learning process, but it has helped me build a stronger and more sustainable business.
Any shoutouts you want to make?
I’d love to give a shout-out to my team, our amazing clients, and everyone who has supported Ready Set Shine as we’ve grown. I’m incredibly grateful for the people who trust us in their homes and businesses, recommend us to others, and continue to support a local small business. I also want to give a special shout-out to my fiancé, who has encouraged me, supported me, and believed in me as I’ve built and continued to grow this business. And of course, my daughter is at the heart of it all. She’s a huge part of why I work so hard, and she even inspired the name Ready Set Shine through her enthusiastic “ready, set, go!” moments. It felt like the perfect way to tie something so personal to a business I was building for our future.
