So nice to meet you! First off, what’s your name? Tell our readers a bit about yourself: where you’re from originally and where you live now.

Hi, my name is Karah Kidd. I was born and raised near Fort Worth, Texas. I currently live near Salt Lake City, Utah, and have called this place home for nearly ten years.

Tell us one thing you love about where you live now.

I am in love with the scenery here in Utah. I remember the first time I saw the mountains, I was looking out the car window and thought to myself "Wow, this looks like a painting."

Tell us a little more about what your company does and how it started. How does it help your customers?

I am the owner/operator of SkinKarah, a boutique beauty spa in Cottonwood Heights. I opened the business in November 2025 and have had great success for almost a year. I provide skincare and beauty treatments to clients all over the Valley. It is very important to me to provide a safe, comfortable and judgement free space where my clients can relax and know that they will leave feeling better on the inside and out by the time they walk out the door.

If someone wants to start a business, what advice would you give them?

Don't worry about messing up, it is inevitable and will only make you stronger. Listen to your ideas and go for them. Some will work out and some will not. Don't worry what other people will think because at the end of the day you own the outcome either way, so you might as well own it on your own terms.

What is one piece of feedback from a happy customer or client that you won't forget?

I have noticed that many clients have mentioned how peaceful the space is and how refreshing it makes them feel.

Where do you see your company in the future?

I’m big on spending time with my clients and not rushing from one to the next. I want to keep it that way. I would much rather schedule too much time than not enough time. I like things just the way they are and I am excited what the future holds for my business, whatever that may be.

What is the biggest misconception about your industry?

I don’t think people realize how competitive and saturated the esthetic business is especially in Utah. It is not an easy road to get to a place where you can work on your own terms at your own place with your own clients.

What has been one of your biggest struggles building your business, and how did you deal with it?

The hardest part was operating within constraints that didn't align with how I'd naturally work. I felt replaceable, which killed my motivation. But that struggle actually taught me what I don't want, and clarified what I do want to build in my own business.

What was your favorite music artist and athlete growing up?

I grew up in the 90’s singing along to Alanis Morissette—those songs meant everything to me. And Dolly Parton? She's not just a singer; she's a businesswoman who built an empire doing things her way. That inspires me. As for athletes, it was never really my thing—I've always been more creative-minded.

Any shoutouts you want to make?

Big shout-out to an incredible mentor who's been in the industry for over 25 years. She could have leaned on her experience to intimidate, but instead she led with grace and kindness. She taught me that you can handle anything with peace and integrity, and she made me feel valued rather than replaceable. That's real leadership.
